Using positive and affirmative verbiage, follow the instructions and answer the questions reflectively in your journal. These questions apply to you as a person, but they can also be used in the classroom with students.
1. Take a deep breath and relax for a minute. After you have relaxed, reflect on how you feel at this very moment and write it down in your journal. Give that feeling an identifying name.
2. When was the last time you had nothing to say? Did it feel awkward? Did you embrace the silence? Jot down a few sentences describing how it felt.
3. Imagine that you are writing to someone you care about. Write down how you really feel. Embrace the truth and honesty of what you write down.
4. What is something that you like about yourself? Show your gratitude for that something in your journal.
5. What is something that you really want? Be honest and truthful as you write it down.
6. How do you know something is false? Consider social media, the internet, friends, and family. Write a line or two in your journal.
After answering the questions above, take a short break to reflect on what you have written. If you are working individually, add any additional notes that may have come to mind. If performing this exercise in a group, have another member of the study group share their answers as you listen without judgment, and then you do the same.
